Tobias Heine’s works address the potential that can be found in boredom. His videos and installations serve as phenomenological studies that focus on everyday objects and events such as pouring water into a glass, slicing a loaf of bread, or just sitting and waiting – placing a particular emphasis on these topics’ temporal-aesthetic aspects. Subjected to conditions of monotony, repetition, and the dragging out of time, common and often standardized household items and environments become images that perform a reinterpretation their own banality, while commenting on the assumptions that underlie the development of images and forms.

Tobias Heine (born 1984 in Magdeburg, lives and works in Bremen) studied under
Stephan Baumkötter at the University of the Arts Bremen. His degree show in 2015 was awarded the Karin Hollweg Prize, one of the most significant art grants for students at German universities, made possible through the generous support of the Karin and Uwe Hollweg foundation and connected with an institutional solo exhibition.
