There’s a thread you follow. It goes among
things that change. But it doesn’t change…

Nothing you do can stop time’s unfolding.
You don’t ever let go of the thread.
(from William Stafford, The Way It Is)

Interface Gallery is pleased to announce Into the Fold Again, featuring works by Nunzio De Martino and Charlotte Walentin. Both artists engage in meditative processes that are very physical and result in highly tactile works.  Using a sewing machine, De Martino works back and forth across the surfaces of his canvases, building up scribble-like, layered marks in a rhythmic, at times, almost obsessive fashion. Walentin sprays her canvas material with diluted ink which she brushes into the material, often in multiple layers, before folding the dyed canvas in sturdy sculptural forms. There is a distinct sense of pathos and presence in these artists’ work - a welcoming into the fold and an invitation to follow the thread.

Nunzio de Martino (b. 1970 ) is based in Naples and Milan. He has shown in numerous spaces throughout Italy, including Annarumma Gallery in Naples where he has had two solo exhibitions.

Charlotte Walentin (b. 1965 ) is based in Malmö, Sweden. She received her MFA from Malmö Art Academy in 1999. Walentin has exhibited widely across Europe, including recent solo exhibitions with Galleri Thomas Wallner and ELASTIC Gallery, Stockholm. Her work is in numerous public and private collections including Malmö Konstmuseum and the Stockholm Municipal Art Collection.
