Ralph Schuster works in various media and is especially known for his virtuoso paintings with coloured pencils. His iconography feeds itself preferably from everyday culture. In example, some of his recent sculptures, drawings and paintings around the cigarette and the blue smoke. Next to them, there are media and comic book heroes, animals, arms, eyes, teeth, vessels, etc.
His paintings sometimes include works by other painters or quote advertising freely. Together with their titles they result in very personal narratives, which leave the viewer plenty of room for his or her loose associations. An element of his multi-part installation "Chestfield" in our temporary shop window in Bochum city centre is the neon sculpture "Two Years Holidays", which we present to you as a new Provinz Edition.  As a colourful and dynamic light drawing the swinging 6 in many colour and size variations and emerges on the second glance as a face with a quiff and scarf.
