PARTY Contemporary proudly presents its inaugural show SKPP.
The title of the show is an acronym for Stelios Kallinikou Polys Peslikas, suggesting the coming together of two artists and the mediums they respectively use, photography and painting. Stelios and Polys are invited to respond to the space and converse in a way which reflects the intertwined history of painting and photography.
Stelios, who tirelessly observes and documents the landscape of Cyprus, presents a group of photographs that verge on the painterly. Polys, who paints with an emphasis on the layering of colours and textures, utilises specific features of the space and found photography.
Party Contemporary is an artist-run gallery founded by Phanos Kyriacou and Natalie Yiaxi. It is an intuitive endeavour, through which they wish to create a network of artists, collaborators, friends, collectors; a party. It is located at a converted butcher-shop at the center of Kaimakli in Nicosia.

Stelios Kallinikou (b.1985, Limassol CY) is a photographer living and working in Nicosia. He studied History and Archaeology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece and photography with a scholarship from IIEK ESP. His practice intersects space & place, time & history, as manifestations of multiple interweaving discourses of meaning. He is in constant dialogue with the act of seeing whilst considering new possibilities and limits for the photographic medium. Since 2009 he has presented his work in solo and group exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad. He was selected for the Young Greek Photographers exhibition in 2010 and in 2013 at Athens Photo Festival. In 2014 he had a solo show as part of the main schedule of the international photography festival Encontros da Imagem in Braga, Portugal. He was among the 20 finalists of the International Portfolio Reviews, Emergentes. He was also nominated for the Fotomuseum Winterhur Pla(t)form in 2014 and for PRIX PICTET award in 2016. Κallinikou is co-founder and director of Thkio Ppalies Artist-led Project Space, based in Nicosia. In 2018-19 he will be a resident at the Kunstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin.

Polys Peslikas (b.1973, Limassol CY) is a painter currently living and working between London and Nicosia. He attended Ecole Superieure des Beaux Arts Montpellier in France (1993-1998, D.N.A.P, D.N.S.E.P). He uses painting as a point of departure for potential situations in which the aesthetic experience of narrative and painted surface becomes a subject in its own right. The last fifteen years he is regularly collaborating with independent choreographers for the creation of contemporary dance pieces and from 2005 to 2011 he was a regular contributor at the cultural magazine YSTEROGRAFO / Phileleftheros. Between 2006 and 2015 he was an art educator in the public sector and from 2015 to 2017 he worked as  the art director of the contemporary art project-space VOLKS in Nicosia. In 2015-16 he was a resident at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin. In 2017 he represented Cyprus in the 57th Venice Biennale. Among other places, he has presented his work in Villa Medici/Rome, Shanaynay/Paris, NiMAC/ Nicosia, Halle 14/Leipzig, Künstlerhaus Bethanien/Berlin, Prague Biennale 2.
