The world of objects seems to be in motion. They incorporate and cover, pose and perform. Individually adjusted and personalized, they work as agents of efficient processes, an optimized performance and a maximum of closeness – and thus increasingly evade clear legibility. Do we need lessons to still understand objects?

OBJECT LESSONS attributes objects the potential to do more than to fulfill a mere function.
Beyond status and purpose, the exhibition seeks to create a space of resonance that is not situated within the object itself or its representation. Dynamics of globalization and digitalization, which put the material and the immaterial in always shifting relations, eventually make objects act and work autonomously; as parts of a network in constant transition. The works of Stephanie Kiwitt, Marie-Luise Marchand, Wenzel Stählin, Carsten Tabel and Harun Farocki reflect on an aesthetic that mirrors them in a specific manner as things – and thus dissolves the distinction between subject and object.
