ALMA ZEVI and Fokidos are delighted to announce gobscure’s first exhibition in Greece, co-inciding with the opening of documenta 14.

why greece? its in our blood, our thinking, our language. times hard as teen - but corresponding with another such (northern greece), sadly long-lost - & our words winging across europe & together  flowing & flowering - learning ov greek poetry / history / theatre / art / resistance - touchstones ever since. 

self-taught artist / performer / writer with international reputation. part of mad studies north-east collective promoting debate and creative resistances around mental distress. active in disability arts, theyve created many significant and innovative works around their lived experience whilst exploring a much wider range of themes appealing to wide audiences. working outside categories using theatre / performance /  film / photography /  sound-art / written and spoken word / visual poetry / installation and online to challenge ownership of narratives, regularly challenging psychiatry - privileged storytelling not science-based on history as psychiatric survivor.

in 2011 successfully completing a major disability arts residency at the new gallery walsall in association with dash. long-term writer / artist / mentor-in-residence with celf-o-gwmpas, mid-wales supporting disabled artists. jessie kesson 2016 literary fellow to moniack mhor - scotlands writing centre. currently associate artist with greyscale theatre company developing a new monologue joey s/he - ‘they gave lou reed e.c.t. cos he was bi. dont let ‘em give yu’. working from mid-april with arthouse wake eld & mental health museum on ‘reclaiming the languages of lunacy’ across a wide variety of art-forms

seventy short films - many commissioned - have screened worldwide numerous times. ur’s for kurt (schwitters) was a  finalist in 100 years of dada, screening at the ica, 2016. exhibited, commissioned, toured, performed, collaborated, facilitated and published widely and internationally

sound art presented worldwide including last years švejk’s anabase - a response to the obscenity of world war one as seen thru eyes of ‘the good soldier švejk’ launched at the international artists anti-war exhibition b-side, casarsa della delizia, italy. third full volume of poetry is that a bruise or a tattoo? shearsman press, 2013 is still available

ALMA ZEVI is a gallery active in Venice (Italy) and Celerina (Switzerland). Fokidos is an artist-led space in Athens run by artist Sofia Stevi. ALMA ZEVI has worked with Sofia Stevi for a number of years, most recently showing her work in Celerina in the summer of 2016.
