The exhibition Fireworks out of season – Riviera is an unseasonal invitation. It
arrives when the open-air movie theaters are not yet open or are long-closed, before
or after the tourist season in the Côte d'Azur. It is an invitation to an inverted visit.

The exhibition looks at different views and aspects of the space beyond its usual use
and function. It visits Riviera out of season, when it is closed, inaccessible and
invisible. It aims to create an environment of contemplation through a poetic
displacement, through a condition ‘out of time and place’ which shares the features
of a dream during sleep.

When Riviera does not function as a cinema it leads a secret parallel life. It looks like
a garden that grows by itself and a fallow field; nature recovers its rhythm there while
the enclosure separates it from its surroundings. Following Riviera’s ‘parallel life’, the
exhibition composes a parallel narrative that negotiates with the experience of
spaces, their representations and connotations: from Exarcheia to Côte d'Azur, from
an open-air movie theater to a summer destination by the sea.

Moreover, the out of season condition is a discussion about the climate in both literal
and figurative meaning. Climate signifies atmospheric as well as living conditions that
prevail at a certain period and place. The seasonal character of particular activities,
events, habits and destinations explores the flow of time according to nature, society,
and daily life. The visit of an outdoors space during winter examines a series of
parameters that regulate the seasons and affect individual and social experience.
