My crap is BIGGER than yours! is a project by Eleni Bagaki curated by Annie-Claire Geisinger.
Examining the borderline between image and object, Eleni Bagaki’s works balance between
reality and illusion, creating a universe of ambiguity and subjectivity. By using specific items
repeatedly in her collages and installations, seemingly banal objects are turned into symbols,
blurring reality and representation and questioning originality and reproduction values. For
ReMap 4 Eleni uses a selection of found images and objects from a variety of sources – sex
textbooks, wildlife encyclopedias, etiquette guides, local markets and the street – and
transforms them into neon signs, inspired by the aesthetics of fast food restaurants. Installed
outside a neoclassical building on Iassonos str. 26 in Metaxourgeio, they merge with the signs of
supermarkets, brothels and cafes of the neighborhood, appropriating the public space and
composing a subjective, fragmented narrative. While on show, the elements that formulate
each work - objects, space, relationships - lose their apparent formality and meaning,
producing new subjectivities.
